easy fix for that cracked main jet tower-
.45 caliber shell casing with the cap removed . Taps right over and you don't have to use the brass ones either . If you have any gun nut buddies ask around. I keep some in my tool box for such an occasion . Works perfect , picked that up from some sohc chopper guys- if you need a few let me know I can mail you some.
Don't throw that old Keihin carb away!
Have you ever picked up an old CB750 or bought carbs online, only to find that the cast in the bowl where the main jet screws in is FUBAR?
I stumbled onto a quick and easy way to fix that. Here is a list of the parts you will need:1..45 cal ACP pistol, loaded
2.one cat, irritating
3.old style carb, with splitting at main jet holder
4.metal cutting tool (hacksaw)
5.small, fine round file
6.a tube with about 3/8" ID and 1/2" OD thats about an inch long, you can probably find a spacer in your local Lowes/Depot hardware bins that will work.
Step 1: clean the carb on the tower where the main jet holder goes in.
Step 2: shoot the pistol at something, irritating cats are fairly gratifying.
Step 3: retrieve the spent casing and take it in your shop/garage, toss the remains of your neighbors irritating cat into the dog lot of another neighbor you don't like. Phone call to cat neighbor optional.
Step 4: cut the primer section off the casing leaving about 9/16".
Step 5: pinch all the cracked pieces down on the tip of the main jet tower and gently get your main jet holder nut started.
Step 6: slide and then gently tap the shell casing down onto the main jet holder tower with the spacer tube until it is tight.
Step 7: tighten main jet holder, reinstall main and idle jets, reassemble carb and ride.
