weird ignition problem
« on: September 02, 2013, 08:39:06 PM »
Bike started losing power, got home stumbling & bogging. Checked the points and timing, looks good , I can see spark on the poinst. I don't seem to be getting any spark to the 2-3 cylinders though, any ideas what to check next ?

Thanks

I have seen quite a few similar situations(seems to spark at points but no spark at plugs) turn out to be dirty points.  Use a point file, electronic cleaner and air.  I have a few emery files left(very similar to a women's nail file) that I use.  File between points, spray cleaner, several back and forth passes, remove file, hold points open and  use air to blow away any residue...Larry

Tried that, I have some emery paper, didn't make a difference :-( , could it be wiring or shorting or a bad coil ?

Model and year?  Check the connection coming from the points.  Had a 750 once where the bullet connector by the frame was not tight so spark was intermittent...Larry
