CL450 K5
« on: September 07, 2013, 05:36:39 AM »
Now that I've cleaned it up and made it shiny, I thought I'd post some updating pics.     This is the result of a quick wash followed by many hours of chrome polishing, and an hour or so of polishing and waxing the fuel tank and side cover paint.    The frame paint is perfect.   It actually looks like it might even be  powder coated.  I've never seen original frame paint this nice on a 60's or 70's Honda.

I still need to do some work on cleaning up the engine cases and spokes, but it is coming together nicely.

$250 would be killer, but no, it cost me $800 with clear title, but not running.  These are the "after" pictures.     I put in a solid two days cleaning, polishing, waxing work -- most of the on the chrome.    It is only getting spark on one side right now.   I need to inspect/replace the points and set the timing, then, hopefully, it'll run fine.

How many teeth on that rear sprocket??

I'll have to count the teeth, I'm not sure.

Good deal on one of the more awkward "dirt" bikes ever made.  Was it a local find?  Frequently the point wires on 450s came loose at the connection under the tank....Larry

Yes, it was local.   I got it near Reading, PA.    The quotes around "dirt" are appropriate.     I pretty much consider all the scramblers (CL) models to just be CB's with different styling, kind of like so many of the faux ADV-styled bikes on the market today (like the CB500X, NC500X, etc).

Thanks for the tip on the point wires under the tank.

Reading is a good area for rare finds,  I bought a CZ enduro and Jawa Trailmaster in that area-both for the outrageous sum of $400 and from a CL ad...Larry

Which cylinder doesn't fire, the port side? (Right when seated on it.)

The solder blobs on the coil are precariously close to the coil mount and ground out. They will blow fuses usually.

Nice get!
