Howdy, this isn't exactly SOHC, it's about a 1980 CB750F (I do have a SOHC 82 CB650SC though)...
I am working with a friend on his 750. It gets no spark whatsoever from either coil, though all the lights light and battery is good. Starter turns the motor fine.
I know I need to find a place that lists the values for checking the stator and rotor (this one has a rotor with the 2 carbon brushes in the outer case) but there is another problem I have no idea what the root is:
BOTH of the transistor ignition modules (Oki MPS 200) somehow seem to have overheated and the black goo has melted out of them and run out, dripping below.
I am not sure of what could have caused this, as I have never seen this bike in a running state and have no idea what was done previously to get it running. I was wondering if the battery was put in backwards or a charger attached incorrectly, or without a battery in the system.
Any suggestions would be appreciated as the Chiltons Manual doesn't have stator values and I am not familiar with the slip-ring rotor design (I think my 650 has just a metal rotor with all the coils out in the stator).
Any pointers to a website with stator diagnostics would be great too.
