double base gaskets O ring answer!

 I added a second metal base gasket to gain some cylinder clearance. What about the O rings? It seems they won't be compressed now.

In  my search someone asked about using a 10 x 3 mm  O ring but got no reply. I think stock is 11 x 2.5. a 1/2 mm is around .020? that's what I'm adding gasket wise. Sounds correct to me.
Anybody? Anybody? Bueller?

You can eliminate the o ring by putting 1197 in the grooves. I have done this for 915 CycleX kits as the sleeves are tapered and the block "windows" after boring.

Thanks Mike, could you elaborate on the 1197? I searched here and googled it, all I found is fuel tank sealer.

Thanks Mike, could you elaborate on the 1197? I searched here and googled it, all I found is fuel tank sealer.
My typo mistake Don.....it is 1194. Its the same thing as Yamabond, Hondabond. The grey sealent that you use on engine cases etc.

I wasn't clear sorry, this is the o ring around the stud/oil passage. not the cylinder sleeve o ring, but thanks Mike, that one hadn't occured to me at all.

I took a tall stud/ head seal for a newer engine, slipped it over a socket, then found a sharp razor blade and a piece of aluminum .125" thick. I laid the aluminum on a flat surface and put the razor blade on it with the sharp edge hanging over. Then I rotated the socket and seal against the blade with a little silicone for lube. I sliced off the appropriate height seal to replace the too thin O ring. From the bottom of the groove to the top of the two base gaskets measures .110" I cut two seals .130 for some crush. I sanded them smooth and will set them in a small amount of hondabond in the groove.  I'll get a picture if anyone wants to see.

Sorry about the misinterpretation Don....I should have looked at the oring specs you supplied. Obviously a 10.. oring ain't going around a sleeve. ::) ;D

No worries, sometimes I wonder if anyone else ran into these things or it's just me.   LOL.
I have Don. I have had to run .040 copper base gaskets as some of the old engines have short decks and any decking (which is just about always required) really effects the piston height.

Don I've done similar with an even thicker (multiple stock base gasket) configuration for my low compression el cheapo junk yard stock piston turbo motor; to add support and keep from crushing that elongated "O" ring I made, I trimmed down an F style head dowl pin, the ones that fit inside that long rubber oil drain back seal which I shortened as well. It obviously provided the right internal support and so never leaked a drop of oil in 2 years of almost daily use.   
And on weekends I did my best to stretch to stretch those head studs - and rods. ::)

Great idea! mine got torqued down already. I'm ready to recheck the head and seal the nickle washers in the am. Then the big cam!
