1975 CB550 Front Brake Sticking
« on: September 02, 2013, 02:09:54 PM »
Hey guys,

I'm trying to straighten out a brake problem I've got. The front caliper used to stick on this bike like crazy, so I cleaned the inner faces, put in a new seal, and bled the lines. I tried my best to do the static pad adjustment, as well.

In any case, when putting everything back together the piston went in quite nicely, the wheel spun freely after I did the adjustment, but as soon as I apply the brake and release it becomes much more difficult to move the wheel. See the video below to see how it moves one handed.

Try cleaning out the TWO holes in the master cylinder. It's a common problem.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

These holes?  They look clear and clean to me.

When I get the chance I'll take photos of the piston and caliper. There are imperfections on the piston, it may be worth replacing.

Make sure they are clean by poking them with a fine wire. I used a bit from my wire brush.
Your brake is grabbing in that video. The wheel should spin a lot easier than that.
Prolly need a new piston and seal if those MC holes are clear.

The holes were clear, but man I'm having a lot of trouble bleeding the brakes now. It's there some trick to getting the banjo bolt back on I don't know of?

Anyhow, pics of my piston and caliper.

Yep, I would get a new piston. Which banjo bolt and what sort of trouble? Never had a problem with bolts not fitting.

Did you use a new brake pad and did it slip in easily. Some new ones need a little fine tuning to work smoothly.

I recently had the same issue, Got a new seal and a new piston (yours is even worse than mine was) You can find a good piston on ebay for $30 or so.

I also took fine grit sandpaper and really scrubbed the inside of my caliper. Got All of the gunk off, especially behind the seal. That seemed to help a lot too.
