Diesel Exhaust fluid?
« on: September 03, 2013, 12:53:47 PM »
I've seen the ads and saw it in the stores, Pretty sure it lubricates the muffler bearings, right? :o

I think it's a fuel additive that has something to do with cleaning up diesel exhaust emissions but I'm not sure. If so then I guess it would help the muffler bearings then.  ;D

You can't blame the EPA.  They don't see diesel exhaust as all that bad.  Besides, if it was them, it would be required.  It's just a sales pitch.
Go metric, every inch of the way!

It's on all the new diesel trucks as of about four years ago, mostly to keep down ash and particulates. You still have to grease your muffler bearings according to Manufactureer's specs.

A friend of mine told me about that stuff. He first saw it at the local volkswagon dealer's parts counter. Parts guy said it was made of pig piss. Keeping the fluid topped up is part of periodic maintenance I'm told. Saw on one of the t.v. shows that Caterpillar(?) has been using it for a few years now.

I wasn't really sure where this thread was going.  This technology has been around for a while now along with Exhaust Gas Recovery - EGR Systems on Tier 4 engines.

I'm thinking of making a high performance diesel exhaust fluid additive that could gain as much as 14% more power and extend engine life 72%. Of course it will be synthetic  and re-cycled with no aminal by products and ozone friendly. With characteristics that could reverse global warming when used at high or low or any other altitude. Sold only at finer stores.

In short DEF is injected into the exhaust stream after the DPF ( diesel particulte filter) through a reaction tube that give it the proper time to breakdown and disperse before it is run through a catalyst, much like the ones everyone is familar with from your car, buth with different precious metals to perform a certain reaction to convert NOX ( oxides of nitrogen ) into n2 , h20 and carbon dioxide, i forget the exact make up of the DEF but it smells like piss and crystalizes when it dries into lumps of white solid piss. Thank the EPA . Average length of the emission controls on the exhaust on a modern diesel is about 8 feet. I work for cummins.

The fluid is essentially Urea in a solution form.  ;)
