My CB400f build.... :::many photos:::
« on: August 20, 2013, 06:24:34 pm »
So after  long year and a half I have finally finished my build of my first of many CBs  ( cant wait to do a 750 next...)

How she looked when I got her.  It was given to me by the original owner just as you see it, a rusty rolling chassis...

Tearing her down bit by bit...

Check out the aftermarket swing arm.

Back from powder coat.  Fitting up the new shocks.

Sparkles in the sun

Rollig chassis!

Before shot (all aluminum rim...)

After shot.  Satin black powdercoat with Buchanan SS spokes. Shot blasted the hub and sprayed with clear coat.

My motor arrives via ebay. note the awesome packaging....  a story for another time....

The motor is in!  That's my little helper in the back ground.

Rebuilding the head.

mating the jugs to the block. no ring clamps needed, just fell right on!

Head is on . starting to mount the electronics and make a custom wire harness...

really starting to come together

My own custom air intake. all the flow of a KN filter without the annoying tuning headaches of PODS

How is looks installed. Still utilizes the factory air box to mount all the electronics.

another shot of filter. Carbs fresh from Hondaman are in too.

accel coils and wires.

prepping the tank to paint

Eastwood's Y2K system  .  $40 paint job!

built in hardener. I highly recommend this stuff. It turned out great for a rattle can job.

Almost there!

Finished!

A big thanks to all who contributed with their advice. Without you I would still be pushing a rusty frame around my garage.

Nice bike!!!

Surprised the cylinder head just fell on.. Either you are extremely lucky (or exaggerating  :P), or the pistons/rings are out of clearance. Did you try a compression check?

Ok ok they didn't just fall on but the bottom of the cylinder has a large taper that helps collapse the rings. Compression is great. Rides nice. It has become my daily commuter ( on nice days) .

The guy that gave me the bike never put it on the street but track raced it. He had purchased many yoshimura accessories including the swingarm.

Great result!

That must be the worst 400f Starter I've seen yet.

I want a swing arm like that... Any idea if older model Super 4 swing arms fits on the 75 frame?

Great build.

Totally awesome job, definitely a case of resurrected from the grave.  Another on the road that was almost lost and forgotten.  Bravo!
