Its only 12v, so there's not that much power, Don  ;D As for resident wiring guru, not really. Maybe resident M-Unit technician is more appropriate. The stock wiring is by modern standards, a gangly mess. But the M-Unit cleans that all up rather nicely and adds lots of stability and features with a bit of re-wiring for simplicity.

The only part I disagree with is "its not magic".

It's magic when I do it... When I work with electronics it always ends with a flash of light, a puff of smoke, a few gasps and a small crowd of people asking "where did the fire come from?".

LOL. Oddly enough, last Thursday am I was standing in the laundry room with the wife, folding 16 metric tons of clean clothes from our kids' week. Suddenly, Pop! Sparks! Small 4th of July from the junction box for the double wall oven. I'm like, WTF, it's not even on?

Breaker is tripped, so I remove the cover and discover that the morons who wire this house in the 80s had overstuffed the box with poor workmanship, and that over time vibration had simply caused the connections to short. No big deal, strip it all clean, reconnect everything properly, back in business. See? No magic to it.

My wife and I were laughing hoping that some day while we are all safely away the wiring will burn this old house to the ground (of course without our most precious items in it).  ;D

Cal - I installed the m unit.  Everything is working properly (turn signals, hi low beam, kill switch, indicator lights, etc). However, when I turn the ignition to off, the hazard lights come on.  Any thoughts?  The only thing I don't have installed is a horn.

Probably you have switched the HI to ON before you turn off the key. Move the headlight to LO, then kill the bike. You're activating the Parking light feature.

Or, if the indicators are truly flashing like hazard lights, are you using different switches and sequence to kill the bike?

I read about the HI to On before the key is off problem.  I have the headlight on low before I kill the bike and the hazards (blinking right and left turn signals only) still come on.  They stay on until I disconnect the battery POS.

I have tried all different ways to kill the bike (ignition off, kill switch off then ignition off) and the hazards still come on.

Weird part is, after I disconnect battery POS and reconnect it with the key in the off position, the hazard lights do not come on.  Once I turn the bike with the key on, everything functions like normal.  once I turn the ignition off, the hazards come on again.

By the way, this is a 78 cb550k.  Stock hand controls, anti-gravity lithium battery, aftermarket R/R (black to lock, red to battery POS as your other posts indicated) rear LED integrated brake light and turn signals (no front signals), original points/coils ignition system.

MotoGadget Guru Rules of Engagement: (that's a nod for you, Don, and an inside joke for others)
1. Please document exactly all components you will be using, i.e. Stock gauges, stock key switch, what brand and model of ignition, etc and I will forward as close to accurate wiring diagram to you.
2. I only guarantee my best effort to make it right. If it doesn't work, you, not I, did something wrong (tongue in cheek there, don't get in an uproar)
3. If you make it work, I deserve all the credit. But keep it to yourself, I enjoy anonymity in my private life.
4. The more money you spend on things, they better they work. Trust me, I'm in Sales.
5. Please DON'T buy and use the M-Button unless you install it within steel bars. No other method works on our bikes. And you really don't need that piece anyway.
6. Any compensation you feel inclined is to be donated to the site in your name.
7. And most importantly. Please don't publicize that I helped you. Else I'll get a flood of PMs, emails, text messages and calls to help others. That destroys my anonymity.

Lastly, it's only 12v; it's not magic.  ;D

If we can all agree to those rules, I'll do whatever I can, for whomever I can, whenever I can.  Because you really do meet the nicest people on a Honda forum  :)

Hey Cal, sorry to reignite this thread in the name of really (REALLY) needing some help.
I'm struggling to work out my M Unit in terms of connecting to the coils etc.
I know it's like swearing on here, but I've got a DOHC '81 and for the life of me, cant work out how to connect the CDIs, coils etc. Can you help?

M Unit Basic
Antigravity Battery
Motone Switches
LED rear light

This is the first time I've ever attempted a bike build and feel a little in over my head....

Hope you can help!

Thanks,
Brandon

This thread recently passed the FIVE year mark.

Should I organize a band of SOHC gurus to come out and knock this project out?!

With all the help you've given out to countless forum members [including me] how can we expect you to ever finish?!!

Lol. The bike is done and running on the road. In fact, I’ve made a deal with a young man locally who wants it. So he’s been getting some tutelage whilst getting it going. And he’s making payments since he can’t dole the real dough yet  ;)
