You see that non AN tube. That's a overflow/vent. Though it's on the bottom the tube actually runs to the very top of the tank

Hi Guys

I'm extending a stem off a GSXR 1000 2005 to do the fork swap on my 74 CB750

To do this I made a plug out of 6061 alloy :


V-grooved both the plug and the stem pieces, tig'd it up filling the V and rough lathed off the excess




This was all kosher according to an engineer i've been bouncing Ideas off of.

But one thing I didn't consider.. What is the allow type of the stock steering stem? does anyone know?

so why did you have to extend the stem? I compared my '72 stem to my '05 GSXR stem and the length is identical. Everything mocked up correctly so I am wondering if I need to extend my stem or not...

Maybe the 72 was shorter? From what I know the 550 is the exact length (or close enough) but the 750 though is longer. And thanks!

So i finally got around to measuring the stems. Looks like they are identical height.  they are both 9.25" from the top part of the lower triple to the top of the stem.

Odd.. My forks wouldn't fit if I didn't extend the stem, wouldn't make it to the top clamp

Hey Thanks dude. Yeah I would still do the tank, just didn't sound like anyone was interested. If you are let me know we'll work something out. Been a bit busy to post up updates but here is a small one. Worked on the upper suspension arm for the mono shock

Needed mounts so cut the old ones off the original shocks:




Machined a nut round to fit into the tube for the arm


Took some time to turn the bracket on the left to the 2 brackets on the right.


Without a pipe bender this took a while to get this DOM in the right shape:

The issue oh mine was that the lower set of  threads on my stem werent up high enough and the taper bearings werent sitting correctly.  Had a new stem and voila problem solved.

Ah nice I wouldn't of thought.. so was the problem that your stem was not the original stem?

I actually have a lot of material left from making this tank. I was thinking.. everyone seems to want an oil tank that goes in the triangle like this:

If there's enough interest I'll make a small run of them out of aluminum. (I need something to justify the break press i want to buy haha)
