CB550F Front turn signal question.
« on: September 08, 2013, 09:28:37 AM »
Quickie front turn signal question 1976 550F. Newbie on these. Bought the bike with a Vetter so converting back.
Hoping somebody can take a peek at theirs and tell me how the front turn signal wires are routed up to the headlight bucket. I installed some stalks but do the wires come out the rubber grommets or do the exit somewhere around the bottom of the  chrome fork ears ? Also still looking for a good headlight bucket or whole assembly.  Thanks in advance.  Eric

I think they're supposed to go through the stalk ears

ScottS probably has the best stock example on the forum right now.

 I don't know about that...but, Thanks!

There's nothing going through the grommets on my bike. I specifically asked the previous owner...the original owner....about anything he had changed on the bike or that deviated from stock. He never said anything about the signals being off, forks being out, etc.

I'm told the wires should run through the grommets. I have a '78 550K and it doesn't have the grommets. The wires just snake down between the fork ears and fork leg. I believe that, if I were in your position, I'd run the wires through the stalk and then out the grommet. It'll at least offer a little protection against chafing.

Thanks. It seems those grommets have to be there for a reason but their location seems a little odd as a good place to 'hide' the wires. Seems they would dangle out there and still have to wrap around and up. Scott do your wires now on that bike run around the front of the fork tube under the headlight ear cover ?   Eric

Yes...on the F model, they run around the front of the forks and then into the headlight bucket.

My 75 Cb550F.  The two filament wires run through the stalk, out the grommets run up to a cable clip and then into the headlight bucket.

Don't forget the third connection.  The entire fork tube and ear is connected to the green wire harness inside the headlight housing, via the headlight mount nuts.
