sounds like a wiring issue. Check your harness for any splicing, worn or incorrect wires.

Now no laughing, but years ago when MOT ing ( like US safety inspection) a Yamaha 100 i found that both high and low beam patterns were identical, after much searching, cursing and other such mechanical nieceties i discovered that the one filament had broken and the one end dropped down to touch the second filament and weld itself there meaning that both came on no matter where the switch was.DOH!! One new bulb and fixed!

???wuz I bad? ? I see I was censored? ?  Real bad? .. I removed the old wiring harness, as it was rotten in several places.  Just a hotwire to the front. I tested the heck out of the switch my bid  "won"  but it didn't work, hence the two toggle system. The headlight works fine. I was hoping someone would say" yea,  Acme makes a good switch, model 576XP, made for widgets, but will work well as a mc dimmer switch." I don't want to " bid " on another used electrical part. ;D
thanks,  Don
