It just seemed easier than making a stand for it?

First tank side looks promising.  Hopefully I can get the other side to match.

Ran out of argon tacking on the first side, doh!

Good news however is that I booked the ferry for the classic TT, so I now have a target completion date!

The ebay monza style cap has a breather, but I decided to make one anyway to mimic the cr750 style tanks.  Just used a few cuttings that were lying around the bench.

It looks a bit too tall, i'll trim it a bit before welding it in place.

Were the breathers this shape for a reason?  Did the have a ball valve or something inside them?

The pipe being open forward provides a pressurized tank (low pressure); that pressure is not significant enough to cause issues and it aids in fuel flow from the tank. The Control Line model engines would use a vertical pipe on the bottom and top and using a 45 degree angled to the line would provide low pressure to aid in fuel draw. It doesn't provide enough pressure to cause problems. It prevents the vapor lock or having a vacuum in the tank causing reduced draw as it sucks air back into the tank. Kind of like a vent to allow the bottle to empty rather than chug chug...like a 2L bottle when you up end it, it will flow liquid until it needs air to empty further and it sucks the liquid back in as it takes a gulp of air....the chug chug effect as we could euphemistically refer to it...

Thanks for the advice, got the second side and rear fine tuned and tacked up last night.  Sorry if this is getting boring, but it is a slow process.

"Just"... I love it when people describe the work involved in TIG welding aluminum as "just". Coronary transplants take less time  ;D I know you were self-describing and know all too well what I mean, but it just looked completely under-stated in print  ;)

Beat me and everyone else to the loaded "just"!
If only it were that easy, aluminum race tanks would be bountiful!

Tank 99% done.

If I was doing it again I would put a larger radius on a couple of the corners.

Don't underestimate your abilities, when I started this thread I had never bent a piece of aluminium, seen an english wheel, or even held a tig welder.  If I can do it, it can't be that difficult.

I like seeing "the little guy" do work like this. Of course a shop can do it, but seeing someone do it at home is really cool. Might be worth seeing if the local com college has a class. I mig all the time, have never tig welded.

Engine back in for exhaust fitting, got 4 metres of 32mm exhaust pipe today for £20.  Not sure whether to bend it, or pie cut and weld it?  Anybody got advice?

If you have a mandrel bender, that's easiest. Or, you can go Old School and fill the pipe with foundry sand, heat it and hand bend it. Pie cuts and welding is lots more time consuming, but you can fit each pipe exactly to the layout you need.

If you opt for welding, Argon purging is highly recommended with a TIG torch  :)
