If it's only sputtering in mid range I would suspect air:fuel issue as opposed to electrical. Electrical would usually either be a problem all the time or it would come on randomly/intermittently.

Is it idling better after the sync?

IW

Idles way better after the sync, the electrical checked out and also the timing advance mark "F" moves as it should. I believe the new pods may be the culprit. looks like i will need to rejett my carbs to match the new pods. already replaced my plugs and no change in the issues. Definitely sounds like its starving for fuel.

fixed a small air leak but i tested the timing advancer with the light and it wasnt working correctly. Gonna do a full rebuild on the carbs, resync, then fix the advancer and voila! should be done finally.

still fighting jetting problems, but things have halted for now as on my way to the revival show some lady decided to jump out on the intersection and forced me to put my bike down(not my honda) and managed to bang myself up pretty good and break my left elbow. wont be able to work much for the next few weeks but at least im ok!

Ouch!!  That sounds really really painful.  She's lucky you didn't ride over her like the Toecutter gang in Mad Max.  I'd make her pay for your hospital bill and bike repair.

Couple of questions for yall.

1.) cb550 swing arm is a bit longer than the 750 so my chain is now too short. What is the better solution, new chain(current chain isnt but a few months old) or smaller rear sprocket?

2. anyone make brake lines? the current line for my second caliper is too short (old wheel was smaller, 17 inch vs 19 inch) and now it rubs against the wheel.

3.) carbs seem to be sticking, not sure if its the cable or a bad return spring will be loading a video soon.

Thanks again everyone for your help, im almost there.  :o 8) ;D

Hey JoJo,
Sweet bike man. I'm glad I found your thread bc I've been thinking about a longer swingarm. After seeing photos for comparison I'm in.  Did you get a longer chain? If so what length? I have a 76 CB750 F and hoping the swap is the same as yours.

(1) Buy a new chain.  A new sprocket will affect the gearing.

(2) Slingshot (member here on the forum) makes steel braided brake lines at an affordable price (discount for forum members, too).

No.  I do not have the measurement.  But it's my understanding that the 550 swingarm you are using is approximately 2" longer than the stock 750 swingarm.  If so, you would need a chain 4" longer than a stock 750 chain.

i also decided against welding the holes on the rear of the frame after im chopped it up a bit. I think in the future i may weld a loop in there so i used welding plugs to seal them up. Fit right in there super snug and used some sealant to keep the moisture out.

Need to do the same for my bike, where did you find the plugs??

Buy a 110 link chain, then adjust to fit. Remember to fit it based upon your axle being farthest forward in the swing arm. Then take slack out by moving axle rear ward. Pretty simple...

Got it. Thank you.

1. the 550 swing arm is a bit longer, close to 2"(mine was off a 78). I too had a newer chain but i opted to change it out for a longer one instead of messing with the sprockets.

Devin- i had something like that in mind since my ducati tail light doesnt leav much clearance and i already busted one when i hit a bump and the tire smashed the plastic cover. I bought a new one since i really liked the look but still having the same issue. May go to a smaller tail light without integrated turns and use bar ends so i dont have to do any fabrication. Hard to do that with one arm :D

probably use something like this. will be uploading some pics of it soon. Also finally sorted out the rev issue. Turned out to be jetting issues now that i had them synced and mounted the new pods. It was running WAY too rich so i stepped it down to the original 105's. Previous owner had 125's on there so it wasnt running very well.

Its been quite a long time since I posted on here. Update: the bike is, unfortunately, sitting in storage (after 3 years of riding the finished build) as I moved for fork and only recently made it back home. I will slowly start a version 2.0 and now that have some more time work on the things I wanted to change once I finished the build the first time.
