Keep in mind a few engine upgrades you may want to consider (unless you already have):
-New primary chains and tensioner
-New HD cam chain and tensioner assembly
-Replace oil pump O-rings

I will be doing all of these while I'm in there. Figure I might as well do it right and this engine will last me hopefully another 20 years

Every post ive read about building (from what i can recall) and engine suggests replacing the primary chain and tensioner but they dont say why. What the reasoning behind replacing them beside age?

Primary chains will stretch and wear. Tensioner will become hard and brittle with age, potentially breaking off pieces and causing damage.

Your pace of progress is very encouraging, following this thread as I will soon be disassembling my 72K2. Would be extremely helpful if you could post a list of everything you replaced within the engine  (gaskets, seals, o-rings pretty much anything....I plan to do this when I open up mine) so that a noob like me can plan ahead and have all the stuff at hand before diving in.

Since you are going to replace/rebuild the valvetrain, have you also considered porting the head?  Increasing the displacement to an 836? 

$190!  Great deal on the GSXR front.  How's the clearance on the brake calipers to the spokes (assume you are lacing up the front)?  Do you need to machine off (shave) material from the wheel side of the calipers?

I like the look of this bike, especially with the blue tank.

I thought about it but for now im sticking to the stock setup. Porting and bigger pistons and machine work would be out of my current budget.

I havent been able to mock up the entire front end since I still have to drop of my wheels for powder coating before I lace them. I still have parts coming in so as they start coming in i will start putting it together.  Also, the tank is a greenish color but the filter changed it up a bit but i will be keeping the stock tank

Edward- Im still working on this list myself. Once i have the cases back from the machine shop I will let you now. I did get a engine seal kit and complete gasket kit as well. I also bought a hd cam chain, new tensionser setup.

I am not sure what your plans are for finishes -- whether you are re-painting, but the patina on the tank (as is) looks cool.

I am not sure what your plans are for finishes -- whether you are re-painting, but the patina on the tank (as is) looks cool.

im actually considering keeping it as is to keep that old look. i really really like the tank the way it is now. maybe just buff it out for a bit more shine

its for the front, it came of a harley narrow glide wheel. i will be keeping the stock rear hub and polishing it

any one know if the original hub and spokes will mount to an excel 4.5" wide 18" wheel?

was able to get the fabrication done for a plate that will bolt up on top of the battery tray. I still need to sand down the edges and get it painted but this is where the bolts that will hold the seat in place will be fitted. The seat will have threaded mounts on them and the bolts will go in from underneath.

It is, thats why i went with the harley hub. I was able to find a dual disk hub and 19" 2.5" wheel for 160.  All I  need now is to redrill my hayabusa rotors and buy some spacers/bearings and the front will be done. Still need to buy a front fender.

Finished detabbing and grinding the frame.  Then stripped with aircraft remover, finished up with wire brushes then hit with rustoleum rust proof primer and then some coats of semi gloss protective paint. will be doing 3 more coats tomorrow.

I decided to go this route instead of the powder coating simply because I want to be able to say i did as much of this build as possible. Hopefully my prep work was good enough and my primer/paint coats thick enough so that i dont regret this later on.

I couldnt bring up a pic of that guys hub..pics did not load.
 I suspect itis done by CNC.. I work with manual machines, hub may be a bit plainer looking.

As long as it fits, it will be covered up anyways. Inner diameter is 56.25 mm, Outside diameter 69 mm
