crappy idle

Anything beside slow jets that would cause bad idle or is this to vague of a question,runs fine mid range just at idle and slow speed

It is too vague :)

you just got points didnt you? Timing?
What do your plugs say?
Have you gone through the carbs? Stock idle jets?
engine mods?

ya have gone to points,plugs are soot,running 120 main jets,middle clip position,valves set,4 into 2 exhaust,pods,i am runnings used points and condensors,timimg and point gapes all seem to be okay also did a carb sync with mercury gauges,bike runs fine just idle is the issue,maybe inline filters to carbs i have is restricting flow,every time i turn open pet i can see gas flowing intoo the lines

slow jets(what size are yours?)
mixture screws
idle screw setting(too low)
incorrect float setting
timing
valves
clogged emulsion tubes.
post a picture of your plugs.

40 slow jets,26mm float height, valves and cam chain tensioner set,2 full turns on air mixture seems to like it their funny thing is every time i pull carbs and clean then reinstall the bike runs great including idle

How do find out year of carb the motor is 1971 k1  7a j1 carbs  exhaust was stock buut po cut them and welded on tips pod filters i' post pics

Do you have a photo of the carbs?
Pod filters.
Exhaust ? Photo? Do they have baffles?

Rust in your tank getting into carbs after they have been cleaned? Even with your inline fuel filter it may not be enough. Id check inside the tank. Same thing happened to me when i swapped fuel tanks - idle was crappy but bike ran ok (not great but ok).
