As for "What's wrong with Honda oil", the responses are correct: it's overpriced.
Here is a rationale to consider.
Honda has no incentive to recommend an oil that isn't acceptable for use in their engines.
I won't argue that it is more expensive. But, so are engine parts replacements and the inconvenience of repair. And, it will take a lot of oil change money to break even on an engine overhaul.
I use Honda oil, as I notice smother transmission operation with semi synthetics . But, I get similar and safe operation when using JASO rated oils as well.
If the real goal is to cheap out or use what is personally convenient, be aware you are trading the short term experience for some risk of engine life and cost to repair.
I've never heard of an engine failure due to the use of the proper Honda oil (or JASO rated product).
βIt's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When
you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay
too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you
bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The
common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a
lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well
to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will
have enough to pay for something better.β
