« on: August 16, 2006, 11:50:10 AM »
I think I have a Honda cb550E 1979 but i cannot find any manual for this.

The engine number is cb550E-1156184 can someone tell me what year/type and where to get this info.

Info on repair/maintenance manuals for this bike appreciated (Haynes does not have them).

Thanks.

Yeah that's a good place to find what you need to know and you'll find out that the E is in the engine number only and doesn't have anything to do with the model of the bike.

I'm just curious as to why you can't just read the date of manufacture right off the VIN plate...you do have a VIN plate??  ???

If I'm reading Node 133 right, your engine is a 1976...   :-\
...stock 1972 CB500 '500 Four' undergoing re-assembly...
...Stock 1972 CL450 'Scrambler' also being re-assembled...

More than likely there is no VIN plate as you would know it... neither my 550 nor my 750 have one which details the year of manufacture, etc. I've noticed it must be maybe a US thing? VIN plates here in NZ consist of a number only, no other information, and are only a relatively recent innovation. Perhaps it is a similar situation in the Netherlands?

Its aged by the frame number stamped into the LH side of the headstock, also I have the entire Honda manual along with all the supplements scanned to CD if you want a copy ($10 inc airmail). Email me direct if you want one also with frame number as i have an ID book
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).
