400f engine and chassis parts
« on: September 13, 2013, 11:22:03 PM »
howdy hey all.

I'm going to be breaking down my 400f this winter for a mild rebuild/good runner. Clean up all the past mistakes from previous owners.
Down to the frame, new spokes, powder coat the wheels, pull the engine apart and install new trans bearings and chains, ect...

I need to ask a few questions about parts sourcing. I have the regular places in my laptop such as Bike Bandit, Z1, Four into One, Ebay, CL, and a few others.

Are there hidden nuggets I haven't found?

Sealant used and practices offered are also welcome.

Thanks in advance.

This tickles my fancy but I already bought a good used one so..

Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

I find that parts are often actually not available from the OEM suppliers like Western Hills: they all tend to list all parts and show prices... but NLA is still NLA when you try to actually order something NLA.
DSS has put quite a few NLA parts back into production, they have been restoring CB400Fs in bulk. Look there next: their repro parts are very close to factory original.
Finally, the last resort is CMSNL.com in Holland. They've been buying up NOS parts all over the world for years, and have the best stock of obsolete and NLA OEM parts. They also have the highest prices.

Bodi, Western hills has a dept specifically for vintage parts and Dave Silver used to buy a lot from them. They even found me the deleted centre selector fork for a 500 about 12 months ago and did not hike the price. Always worth an email to see as I have always found them very helpful mate
