650 swing arm on a 550
« on: September 10, 2013, 06:32:04 AM »
I read a little about this a while back but can't seem to find the threads using search today.

I know you have to drill out the 550 frame for the larger 650 swing arm bolt.

I have some 550 axles, so I can check this myself later, but does anyone know if the 550 axle fits the 650 swing arm?

What about the brake rod stay? I have a couple of 550 stays....were the 650 stays longer?

Lastly, I assume you use the 550 brake pivot and rod? Will it be long enough?

Found out that the brake stay is the same (Thanks, Tom!). Now...to go dig out the pivot and axles I have and take some measurements.

I'm pretty sure I have to use the 500/550 brake pivot and rod to match the 550 frame. I think the 650 mounted differently.

The hole in the 550 frame is 14.5mm. The 650 swing arm bolt is 15.8mm.

How much clearance around the bolt should there be? Does anyone have a 550 swing arm bolt they can measure so I can see how much clearance Honda left in the frame for the bolt to pass through?

 Because I have one.

No, seriously..... I find myself with enough parts to build another "Sweep The Floor" bike from spare parts and I have a bare CB550 frame and a complete CB650 swing arm, so I figured "Why not?".

I know it's longer, but this will be another Frankenbike and I don't really care. Sort of a BratStyle or Wrench Monkeys type theme.
