WrenchMonkey, that middle one Bill Cosby is known for saying in his comedy routines.

My son has an amazing resemblence to me as a kid and young man. It was funny comparing photos when he was younger. His hair being white blond and mine being sandy blond being one big difference. He is about 2 inches shorter than me.
So, don't know if a another son would be just like him/me but the first one is...

My grandfather is the one that stands out more than anything to me, not necessarily because of what he said but how he said it. For example he had just got done hooking up an LP gas line and was checking for leaks, my brother was ready to get some soapy water but my grandad told him to get a match instead. There was a leak alright because the moment my grandad struck that match it was followed by a KAWHOOOMPH from the leaking LP gas. While my brother was picking himself off the ground from getting the daylights scared out of him my grandad on the other hand very calm and nonchalantly brushed off the burnt hairs off his arms and burnt whiskers off his face and simply said "go get some soapy water".

My Dad used to say
What do you mean you can't find it?If I find it, I'll break your arm and beat you with the bloody end of it.
Or, I'll kick your a$$ between your shoulder blades.

We had an understanding when I was a little bigger than him, and that was never directed my way again, he died 2 years ago, and I miss him.

When I was about 10 years old, my dad was tarring around the chimney.  My job was to bring him anything he needed on the roof.  I decided to start teasing him about his age (He was almost 40 when I was born), I told him he was slowing down and his reflexes were not as good.  He just smiled and kept working.  A little while later he was finished and came down the ladder.  I kept up the banter and started moving around like a boxer.  I was so into acting like a fool that I never noticed that he had slowly moved within arms reach of me.  To this day I don't remember what happened, but in a flash I was on the ground with him  kneeling on top of me.  He said "I may not be as fast as I used to be, but I am smarter".  He then proceeded to spread some roofing tar on my neck.  He laughed, stood up and tossed me a rag soaked in kerosene and told me to wipe it off before mom saw it.  Miss ya, dad.

Last time I saw my dad, back in the 8th grade back about '65, he says to me, at my mother's insistence after she found one of my rubbers, "Don't get me wrong son, I'm not going to tell you not to. I wouldn't tell ANYBODY not to. Just be careful or you'll end up in bed with the same broad the rest of your life".  ;D My thoughts - shove it up yer ass mother. He came and went. Dad left town after that little stroll and talk. Never saw him alive again. That was the one and only day I saw my father as my REAL hero. He spoke to me like an adult for the one and only time. What an amazing last impression!!
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

The one thing my Dad would say that sticks with me and probably always will..."Use your head for something besides a hat rack." Got me thinking/inquiring at an early age and I haven't stopped.

My grandfather was more of a oneliner guy than my dad. I hear his heavily accented Russian voice in my head, and I can't help smiling:
Chave an duh haircut 2 bits, who yuh gonna marry, Tom Mix!

He used to come over, usually driving my dad's last car, on  Sundays. He loved singing songs with me, and perhaps that's why I have always loved music.

Thank you! I showed what I wrote to my dad today. He is almost 94, but still gets around well. He laughed and laughed when he read it. It made me feel like I got it right, very satisfying!

My Dad worked at a sawmill, and as a kid i remembered the smell of sawdust when he came home and took off his boots.... And if we were working on something made of wood , he always knew what wood it was by smell or by looking at it.. And explain it to me..

Anyway later i started eworking at a sawmill, and after not too long..I no longer noticed the smell of the sawdust.. I mean not like before.. Just around it so much..
And my buddy was the sawyer,he got me the job ..it was a small gypo mill, which was actually owned by the premier of British Columbia,s family... So we always got paid...
And my sawyer buddy, he would talk about the smell of the wood as he sawed thru it.. He would say. Douglas Fir.. It can smell anywhere from $hit to Jam....lol.. And we live in a valley known for fruit industry.. He would call the mill the "Board Orchard"...... LoL..
