Dad moved out when I was 16.  Non-amicable divorce.  I didn't see him very much after that.  Mom didn't want him teaching me his ways.

"Keep it up".

I always took it as a sexually reference but was not meant that way.

He had very many and some colorful speech at times but I always remember the " Your going to wind up working in a gas station,or digging ditches" when I was young. There is a Frank Zappa song that says the gas station line that always puts a smile on my face. When we were in the antique business together if I found something really good he would say "Even a blind pig finds an ear of corn sometimes"    WIND UP WORKING IN A GAS STATION -- FRANK ZAPPA

Don't get your ambition mixed up with your ability..

There's no such thing as can't....

Those two seem to be at cross-purposes.

That depends on when they were used, the first one would be when I would get a bit cheeky and push my luck, it was said tongue in cheek, and the second one would come out when i was quite young and would be pulling apart a bike {for example}and get stuck, I'd say, "I can't do it Dad" and he's reply "no such thing as can't"....

"Shut the damn door!  I'm not paying to air condition the whole neighborhood!"

"Put some elbow grease on it!"  This one really confused me until I was about ten years old and finally found out what elbow grease meant.

Funny thing about regret is...... its better to regret something you have done than to regret something you haven't done.
