Good point. It'll just chill on a shelf for now  :D

Great weather, actually warmer than last weekend so I got a good long ride in. Didn't fill up on my way out so had to keep it slightly short but I did get past 1000 miles! I know its not a lot for many of you, but for me, its a 1000 more than I had last year ;D

Lots of riders out there today, got a whole bunch of "Nice Bike!" and "What year?" at stop lights. Waved at numerous Harleys, and they waved back. Waved to a guy on a Z1 (third time I've seen him) and he gave me an enthusiastic thumbs up. Waved to the guy on the moped right behind him and he flipped me off  :o :o I must have broken a major code there :P :P

Ha!... I actually watched that whole video.

Glad to hear you hit 1,000 miles... are you prepping it for storage now?

Also glad to hear you're keeping the bike...  I was really bummed you were considering selling it.
Wishing you some good luck... hopefully you can hold on to it for the long haul and continue getting some well deserved enjoyment for all the hard work you put in.

Chris! Glad you're still around, just read through your racing log, man do you know how to have fun!

I was hoping to get a couple hundred more miles in trying to brave the cold weather, but we had a snowstorm this weekend and every single inch of any kind of "road" is now loaded with tons and tons of salt. So yea, unfortunately it is time to put her away for the season. As for selling it, I got tired of dealing with end of season low-ballers and those vultures who want to advertise it elsewhere and take a cut. I do need to sell it, so will try again in Spring. May have to give up and list it on ebay. There is a lot of uncertainty with my current job, and I can't afford to have a gap in the medical coverage :( For now, all I know is I'm good till the end of the year, so being optimistic about that.

Bumming aside, I really wanna get back to my K3. Don't exactly have any spending money for it, but I have enough stuff collected to at least keep working on it. 33 years of ups and downs in life, and wrenching on the 750 is the most therapeutic thing I've noticed ;D The K3 is going to be my bike, nothing like the K2. We have a lot of guys who love and tune for drag racing, but I'm much more inclined towards track racing like you ;) The K3 is going to be more aggressively tuned and I'd love to find a local track to put it through its paces. Dreams...some day!

Started the sad process of winterizing today :( Tank topped off with Fuel Med RX, bowls drained, battery out. Cleaned up the insanity that was chain lube all over the rear wheel spokes and parts of the rim. Cleaned out all the dead bugs from up front, and started cursing myself for not cleaning it periodically. After a full overall cleaning and removal of road film, it started to look like it did 1000 miles ago ;D. Cleaned and polished up all the aluminum with White Diamond, glad to see the shine is holding well enough. Needless to say its much harder getting it into every nook and cranny when parts are on the bike, but I did my best. Bodywork got a nice coat of Maguiar's Gold Carnuba Wax with a microfiber cloth, good stuff (thanks Jerry H!). I didn't bother with pix as my crappy cell phone in a gloomy garage will hardly do justice. Can take some tomorrow if asked ;). Recent oil change should hold it over for the winter, its pricey but I'll change it again in Spring just to be safe. I live in between two lakes, lots of humidity  >:(. Last thing left to do is clean and seal the chrome, any recommendations? Something other than and better than Mother's Chrome polish (Paging Dr. Dison!).

I might use NevRDull to clean then use your carnuba.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Rafi,

CHANGE THE OIL NOW!!!!

If you are in a humid area (which it sounds like) you will get condensation inside the engine.
And water will help the formation of acids in the oil.
Change the Oil now and then just ride in the spring.

Hi Rafi,

Quote
Last thing left to do is clean and seal the chrome, any recommendations?
What I've learned from talking to guys at car shows:  Clean with the Meguiar's Quick Detailer (and microfiber cloth) then wax the chrome at the same time as the paint.  Don't use the sponge that comes with the wax, cut a small piece of microfiber and use that as an applicator. Buff with clean MF cloth.  Keeps new chrome happy and you won't have the little micro scratchs in bright sunlight that you'd get with the sponge and an old rag. So far this has worked well for me.

Rafi,

Sorry, I must have been asleep.  :)
I didn't realize you just  changed the Oil and had not ridden it since then.

I'd say you're good to go as far as the Oil is concerned.
I assume you also changed the filter at the same time, so no worries.

Haha, thanks Stev-o. Pretty excited about that, and thank you everyone who helped out with the build and voted! The turn out was great, and if that wasn't enough to overwhelm me, look what Stev-o and Joe/FrankenFrankenStuff cooked up! This was quite the surprise! I'm absolutely blown away by the love and camaraderie we have on these forums.

It has been quite the ride the last few months, and so far I've managed to keep it under control. People tell me I'm still pretty early in starting out my life (and here I thought I could retire at 35 thinking old age hit me at 30  :P :P) and its normal to make financial blunders. Job security is such an important thing to have, that the slightest threat to it put me in a frenzy. I started out well in my pursuit of the American dream. I found me a job, a good wife, a car and a house. The next step should have been working on a nest egg in case of emergencies (damn roof  >:() but instead I now have the BOTY. Tried to backpedal on that and thankfully failed.

After a nice pep talk by our beloved Uncle Tez, I realized that $hit can go further south even if I did manage to sell it, then what? So, I'm going to try and hold on to it and deal with circumstances as they arrive. It might work out for the best (find me a better paying gig?) and I may end up with bike 3! (my head is going nuts with so many ideas). One thing for sure now, is that I will NEVER complain about having to work too many hours. The wife and I worked out a nice plan where neither of us will have to sacrifice too much, but still get through life decently. Which brings me back to wrenching on my K3! Hoping this build will let me "have fun responsibly".

@Jerry, thanks as always for your help, I'll get some pix with the trophy on the bike when it gets here ;)

Congrads on the BOTY win! There were some good looking bikes that you competed with so it made my choice pretty hard. Gold is OK but not my personal favorite. What really sold me was the time and effort you put into polishing the cases. That's the look I want and I know the work that goes into achieving it! Glad you don't have to sell it (maybe at least after you build another to replace it). I think you would find yourself kicking your own a$$ in a couple of years with no bike!

Worst case, Drain the fuel, swish some two stroke oil around in the gas tank (maybe allow some to flow through the carbs and out the overflows), and build a crate around it and throw some heavy duty desiccant packs in there (since a tarp or visqueen may damage the paint), and store it for five years. May be worth double your asking price by then! You can even use the crate as a shelf!  8)

Don't forget to store the trophy with it!

Ha, I totally believe that! Thanks for the kind words.

I meant to post earlier but forgot, originally I had plans to go with a reprinted owner's manual but never could get myself to do it. All the mint condition originals were too pricey. Thankfully, member Raul made me a great deal on a very nice condition original and its on its way from Spain 8)
