new 550 owner
« on: August 15, 2006, 07:14:44 PM »
After working on 750's for my motorcycle career, I have finally bought a 550 to work on... I was driving down the road and saw one at a garage sale that said "parts only". I stopped and talked to the guy and he put that sign on the front even though the cycle ran last year (he put it on because it does not have a title). Only $100!!! I couldnt pass up the chance on a complete '74 550 (it is one of the first 10,000 models built).

A few questions:

1. Is there a good 550 repair book out there that can help me work on this bike?

2. It does not have a title, but I do have a bill of sale and a VIN number... the guy told me that I could get a "Abandon Title"- should I go for this, or can I get a regular title?

Thanks All!

If you have a fairly fast net connection, you can download a manual here (site is Italian, manuals are in English).

As for the title, you should first check with your local DMV to find out what procedures you need to follow to re-title a vehicle. Alternatively, you can do a search here, perhaps using "title" and you should find some threads about possibly using a title company.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Do check state regs as some do not need them after so many years. There is a place in Nevada that does titles. Let ya fingers do the typing! Good score! Good luck!
