You guys make me laugh.  :D  The 78K is the supreme K, hands down.  It is the best riding, handling, and running of all the other K's- Every year Honda dialed it in a little tighter.  Who cares about tank's, or seats, or mufflers.  I say, if you are going to build the best scoot possible, one must start with the best product at the beginning- all of the add on's are just that- add on's.  You can make a 78 look identical to a 73 and visa versa, but the 78 sure will perfom!

Just my thoughts,
JP

The tank and tailbox on your buddies cafe look better to my eye than the stock 77-8Fs because of their more elegant shapes that beautifully echo each other.
 Sorry, fellow 77-8Fers :'(

Ditto. The 78 was the result of Honda's correcting the mistakes made on all the CB750s before it. Retro Art!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lemme guess, it's gonna be flat black?

LOL! Prolly not. I'm leaning toward some kind of screaming yellow right now, but who knows?

Rode it home this evening. It's got a 4-into-1 exhaust, so it sounds good. Needs a clutch and carb work, adjust rear brake and general cleaning. The PO had a bunch of parts including a clutch kit and cable, new oil pan with drain plug (existing drain plug is fubar'd...) and some other bits and pieces. Those other bits and pieces include a new, never installed chrome 4-into-2 Mac exhaust, a spare side cover with badge and a spare fuel tank. Oh, and a complete set of front spokes.

Tires are good Dunlops and everything seems to work well. I'll be cleaning it up and making it reliable before winter sets in and then start worrying about the cosmetics. Long ago and far away it was laid down, damaging some cooling fins, so I suspect new jugs/heads and an 836 kit is in this bike's future...

Cold-natured #$%*, but I suspect some carb work and linkage adjustments will fix most of that.

If the weather cooperates this weekend, I'll try to get some pix.

Still sitting there, my note is probably gone, it's storming like crazy right now. I haven't been able to locate the owner.

Auction may take 60 to 90 days. And then you risk a higher bidder. STEAL IT!!! Well no not really. That would be almost as un-cool as leaving it in a parking lot to rot. Rust is a good color...

About that 78K8 I posted pictures of:

The speedo & tach came off eBay.  Don't know any more details about them (yet).

The battery (gel) is under the tail section.  The oil tank is in the picture, but not on the bike anymore...  somebody makes them custom to give CB750's that open look, but this one leaked badly enough that he took it off and went back to stock.

Any other questions?
