New to the site, thought I'd show a couple pics of my 750/1055 drag bike. I last raced it 14 years ago and the last time I ran it the cam chain broke and you can guess what happened then! Well, my local drag strip was having a 50th anniversary big race so about 30 days ago when I found this out I started putting it all back together. It was just a frame in the corner. The race was Saturday the 14th 2013 and I finished at 12:30 am the 14th. Went to the strip made 4 passes and the air shifter missed a beat, the rpms bounced off the rev limiter just long enuf to blow out the #4 rod and punch several holes in the cases. I have a 78ss bottom end I'm gonna use to rebuild but will be needing good rods, pistons, and sleeves. I still have 3 good rods and pistons tho!!! This bike ran 6.60s with the 1080cc engine and 6.96 with the 1055cc engine in the 1/8. That was also with the cr 33s but I couldn't get them to work this time around, left um sit too long so I ran the old bottle caps. First pass was a 7.11

7.11 in the 1/8 mile is equivalent to low 11s in the 1/4... 8)

Here it is 30 days ago and a shot of one of the 3 holes left behind from the rod. Not sure what the rods are, maybe someone can tell me what they are? The RC head was unharmed thankfully!! Pistons are mtc. The sprockets are 15/60 for the 1/8, never got to run it in the 1/4 but would have to do some sprocket changes for that. 1.50 60ft this time, just wish I could have got a few more passes to get it dialed in . :-\

I'd have to agree, that is all I found of the rod ! Nothing left even on the crank. Part of the rod came out the rear and either it or a piece of the block hit me in the leg and left a scuff mark in my leathers.

Only a steel part like a rod bolt could have damaged the crank journal like that??

Nice looking bike. Sounds very interesting.

Also sounds like you need a set of Carrillos in there vs the aluminum rods next time. Did you have a lot of runs on those rods? Can you post up a picture of one of the more fortunate remaining rods?
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Reminds me of this ..but the early diecast case looked wayyy better than yours, crank got imprinted too

What gearing are you pulling on the 8th and what times and speed over the quarter ?

I thought 7.11 should be about 10.3 ish maybe I am wrong but the 1.5 x1/8mile is usually clse....and 1 1/3 for the speed.

In the pictures above you can see two bikes in the back of the storage building, the silver frame is the one we put together this time with the 1055. The other frame (black one) is the one I had this engine in 14 years ago. With a 15 front and 54 rear sprockets it would run consistent 7.00 to 7.10 in the 1/8 at around 94 mph. I had a best at that time of a 6.98 with that chassis. I actually have 3 different chassis. At one time had one with a 836, one with a 1055, and one with the 1080 together at the same time.  I will try to post a pic from 98 or 99 when I raced two bikes in the same class in one night,, long night that was!!  Saturday the 14th I ran it with 15 front and 60 rear and the 7.11 time was 93 plus mph . I will have to see if I can find the time slip and post it. As for the rods, yes, I think I want to get a good set of steel rods but the aluminum rods had been ran back in 98 and 99 for both full seasons, won points championship in 98 and took second in 99 cause the cam chain broke the night of points run off.

It's well geared down for the 8th then JD. I think we have 52 rear and 17 front and just nudge high 7s at the 8th.
Our terminals at the 8th are the same at 92/93mph but we're still in FIRST GEAR.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I'd love to try mine over the 8th.....BILLY, have we got any small front sprockets in the bat cave. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Going by gearingcommander.com 15/60 = 4.00 gearing and should be running 98 mph at 9500 rpm. I never used 5th with the 15/54 sprockets. Good site for gearing sprockets, gets ya pretty close anyway.

  I think I will make putting this back together a winter project so I can take my time and get it right. I'd like to build a swing arm on the outside of the frame and come up with a rim with offset sprockets and disc brake to run a 7 inch slick. Any ideas there?  I'm also gonna look into racing at some of old school races. Don't have any interest in running for points again, just go and have a good time at a few of the races next year.

Sam,16/52 on Samauto,I think,was 16/50 on Calendar Girl,Turbo was17/42 when it ran 7.55 in1/8 @ 102.xx,also popped outta 4th!Now its 14/46.... Showtime!!!!! ;) Samauto has run 93mph in 1/8.....but @ 7.9xx! ::) jd,you going to Bradenton? Come on man!!!! 8) Nice #s best 60ft for Samauto 1.9s 1.8 on Calendar Girl(RC836,Yosh cam and rods).Only ran turbo twice so far,Bill ;D

The rule-of-thumb is 1/8th time multiplied by 1.57 equals 1/4 time, so 6.6x 1.57= 10.362. Do the Samauto time-slips agree? If not, it may be due to the fact that your bike has moved a fair distance down the track before it gets "on the pipe". ;)

Sometimes if a very low geared bike with lower hp than this, the formula will arrive at faster times, than bike will do.
 I think 1080s 1080 was doing 1.6 or better 60 ft.

Thought I'd add a couple pics to show the true colors of my bike, it looks plain old black in the pictures I already posted but it is actually black with prizmatique over the black and a couple coats of clear. Really pops in the sun or with a camera flash. I also dug out some of the other bikes and started going through parts to see what I still have after sitting out all these years I feel like a kid at christmas as I open the boxes to see whats inside!  ;D

Scotty,
     You need to view more recent youtube videos of Sam's 'matic. It started slow in the beginning due to top end power. When we swapped to the 295 cam, the midrange came in sooner. Yes, the formula does approximate what Sam's running. 7.8's in the 1/8th is 12.2's in the quarter. There's a little more left in it with a 12.09 current best. We'll see in November. ;)

If i recall correctly, on my no bar F model with the 1030, on a good run I ran mid- high 6.60's in the 1/8th mile and 10.6?'s@120mph or so in the 1/4 mile. My bike is primarily geared for the 1/8th. Bike weighs in at a heavy 465lbs. Its gone on a diet so we'll see what it nets come November at the Cup race. My team is pressuring me to get it right.
