Swingarm bushings.
« on: September 17, 2013, 02:02:04 PM »
This is what I have in the F arm, black plastic. I am already using early K bolt and pivot and i drilled holes and cut grease spirals in the pivot to help with lubrication.

The setup as you see it is absolutely tight in the frame. Should i just use it like this and fix it in the future or do it now?

Opinions?

Well most people swap them out because almost everybody has swingarm bushings that are shot. You said your stuff is nice and tight so technically speaking you are fine. I guess the real question is do YOU want to change them out preventatively?

I guess the question is what to expect. If it's gonna go bad in 1000 miles or 10000 miles.

Sure as hell not gonna last 10k, I get what you mean tho. The fact that you have it lubed up and the tube grooved will help but plastic is just not the solution for a bushing there. If it is all back together leave it until you have to do some work back there like replacing the tire or something, that is what I would do. If apart, get some 25$ bronze bushings in there

+1....I'd put the bronze bushings in there and rest easy knowing I used the best parts.

They'll probably last as long as a back tire if you've got it together already.

Mine were tight too, left 'em in, still doing well after 8k miles this year, will probably do the bushings this winter.

On the other hand, if you replace them now, you'll never have to worry about it again.

I will look into bushings I guess and see.  This is a project on slow burner, I have all the time in the world to do these things while saving money for a head job :)

Pick your favorite vendor to buy from, could hit up Hondaman as well, he is selling them

that all depends on if/how much your collar is worn.  That's why Hondaman offers his swingarm rebuilding service...but 70cb750 I know you do some machine work.  If you have access to a lathe, you could probably research and set your own clearances...
If it works good, it looks good...

I searched and researched and decided to buy from kenosha_kid on ebay.  That's the guy Frank in Germany, already got confirmation on shipping.

Making my own would be an option, but with the tooling I have now, precise hole within tolerances is quite the PITA.
