Ok, I need to revisit the question of the neutral switch wire. Mystic I appreciate the help but it didn't quite give me a picture of where the physical wire runs. I have a wiring diagram and can read them with ease. I have marked up a drawing of where I think there are 2 possibilities of running the wire.
Option A - orange line
Option B - Blue Line

if its different these please let me know.

Both of my bikes are ran the way of the blue line.

Thanks Dave, the more I looked at it the more I thought the same.

Finally got the oil cleaned and painted. I used matt black and then after looking at it I thought it should of been gloss black. I am also having trouble finding the rubber seals for where the oil hoses connect to the tank. I am thinking they need to be a flat rubber seal.

No, the sealing washers where the lines meet the tank are aluminium crush washers, similar to the oil drain plug washers.

G'Day Tim, it's the blue line mate, and no, there are no rubber seals, there should be a soft aluminum washer per threaded hose fitting. Make sure the old ones aren't still in your fittings, they tend to spread a bit when the fittings are torqued on, and they're hard to see. When I scored two engines on Thursday I ended up with 5 oil hoses, and in those oil hoses today I found enough aluminum washers for Mike's bike's two hoses........ Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

That explains a lot. One hose looks like a flat surface of the threaded fitting and the other has an unexplained groove which most likely still has the aluminum washer in there. Now where to I find these washers??

Try an engineering supply store Tim, soft copper washers would be fine too, beware that one fitting has a smaller ID than the other one, so you may need to file one to make it fit. The OEM washer is about 1 mm thick and the hole needs to be at least as big as the ID of the hose so as not to restrict flow. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I managed to get a sprocket cover but noticed something that doesn't seem right. The is a small 'cut out' near where it fits to the case. Now when I say 'cut out' I am using that term to desribe it because it loos like it was cast that way.

That makes a lot of sense. I have nothing to go by for where the electrics run. This bike had wires hanging out of all sorts of places I got it.

Dave , I know the points wires will run under the engine but do you cable them to the frame?

I personally did not cable it to bottom frame section. I ran it close to frame and cable tied it near where it connects near oil tank. Out of sight

For the wires that run underneath the motor, like the neutral switch and the point wiring, there are supposed to be wire clips that mount under some of the bolt heads and hold the wires in place, one goes on the oil pan, and there's another one down there somewhere that I don't remember right now.

I think I have a diagram somewhere or a picture that shows these, but I am NOT at home right now and I will post it when I am able.

Yep, the other clip lives under the sprocket cover to hold all the wiring away from the front sprocket. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Look at the 4th and 5th pic down here. Only pics I took of it. Bendable metal tab just back from vin plate under sprocket cover. Holds wire from starter and wiring coming from stator.

Started to mount up the oil tank, fitted the rubbers, attached the oil lines and then started to line up the bolts. What a pain that is. Got one then couldn't get tbe others. Tried another then managed to get the second but no chance at all for the third.

It looked as though the tank was from a different model but I was sure the only tanks were K and F. Disconnected the oil lines and managed to get a 3 bolts in but they were tight. It would seem that either the new oil lines are either slightly too long, only 5mm or they are far more rigid than the original and not flexing enough to allow the tank to fit up.

I have the oil lines already fitted to the crank case, so now I will fit them to the tank first and then try to fit to the case but I fear that will be just as hard to fit.

G'Day Tim, I wondered the same thing when I saw those long swaged on fittings, I know that the hoses need to be bent at some tight angles, and wondered if they'd go in easy? You said that you had a spare set of hoses off an F, if you used them as templates for the new K hoses they'll be too long, I compared F to K hoses last weekend, and the F hoses are considerably longer. Cheers, Terry. ;D
