Tire balance

When a front tire is balanced, does the disc stay on or off.

Thanks, Bob

I've done it with the disc off in the past.

I did mine recently with the disc on, it was 35Gs out. When I rode it after that I couldn't feel any difference. We never had wheels balanced in the 70s, not to my knowledge anyway.

Nic is correct. Never even thought about wheel balance back when my main concern was chasing hot chicks. Now that I don't remember WHY I chased hot chicks I do balance wheels. And to do the most accurate job, you need to mount everything that's gonna be spinning with the wheel......e.g. the brake disc.

I've found that the discs can have a bit of radial run-out, like about .010" in some cases. While a small about, consider that the disc weighs over 6 pounds, so shifting that 6 pounds even a tiny about off-center will affect balance. Also, the center hole in the disc is a loose fit on the hub, which can also affect balance.
IMHO, always balance with the disc attached.
