16 x 4 on sohc rear hub
« on: May 21, 2013, 08:13:12 AM »
I'm building a rear tire with an SOHC hub and a 16 x 4 drop center rim to accommodate a 140 tire. I am currently polishing all the pieces before I start assembling and have come across a question I can't seem to find the answer to. It's always the simple ones that baffle me. What's the deal with the valve? Will a standard inner tube's valve fit into the rim's opening or do i have to buy a separate valve?

What are all the basic components of the wheel? Rim, spokes hub, tire, inner tube, liner strip...Am I forgetting anything?
What am I doing and why am I doing it? Those are excellent questions.

Is the hole for the valve offset to one side of the rim? If so you will need an inner tube to match.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

Also there are off set valves that go straight or at a 45. Some times it is a little difficult to get a gauge on a straight one.

Don't forget to line up the circle inked on the tire with the valve when you install the tire.  Its the lightest part to help when you balance, ask me how I know :/

One thing I always leave to the professionals is changing tires. For $20 a tire, it's just cheaper and easier. I know I'ld gouge the hell out of them and it would take me hours.  Lesson #1, Grasshopper. Know yourself.  ;)
