Fitting Dyna Coils
« on: August 16, 2006, 10:40:21 AM »
The Dyna laminated core of the coil is about 2.7 mm wider than the stock coil to frame hanger brackets, anybody else had this problem? If you did you take the excess off the core or the bracket or just make a new hanger?....Cheers

I just took a file to the stock hangers. I do have a spare set, but I think if you ever wanted to use stock coils again the modified hangers would still work OK.

The cores on the coils are generally made a certain way for a reason. You start grinding that and it could alter the operation of the coil in some way. I would just make or modify the bracket.

I heard the laminations are insulated, but wasn’t sure if machining them would be a problem as they sit in a metal hanger that touches the sides, bottom, end and also have a bolt going through all the plates…….I put a meter on the top plate and bottom plate of the old coils and got continuity with no bolt just the coil core, I’ll measure the Dyna’s in the morning they’re in work…… but it’s looking good for work on the hanger just now even if they will be flimsy…. cheers
