Vin number configuration
« on: September 23, 2013, 06:19:57 AM »
I am a new owner of a 78 cb750k. I have had multiple problems with getting title transferred as I bought this bike in California and live in Oklahoma. When I finally got the title from California in my name the tag agency here in Oklahoma noticed the vin number on title was missing the "k" after the cb750 but everything else was correct. I am assuming the "k" is just the trim package but I wanted to confirm that there was always a letter after the cb750 in the vin before getting to the number. Even with the "f" style bikes as well.

And there is always a letter after the cb750? Basically want to make sure there would never be another bike which had no letter after cb750

No, not always, and that seems odd to me.

My '75 k5 has no letter
My '76 F2 has an F
My '76 550K has an E (bike was previously titled in WI that uses engine VIN for title)
My k8 has the K, maybe they started adding the letter in 1976?

Thank you for looking maybe some other 76 to 78 owners out there will chime in as well.

I know the vin is on both sides of headstock tube. Is it stamped anywhere else?

It is not a car.

The VIn numbers back then 40 years ago
have nothing to do with modern VIN numbers.

You are in Oklahoma what can I say?

I moved from Oakdale Ca. Two years ago after spending 15 years there in Cali. Something's are definatly different here but I have no intention of ever moving back.
