Chaps?

Looks like this is good time to buy chaps, prices are favorable in quite few internet stores, but do they work?

Just by looking at it, I feel like indian chief Balls of Ice  ;D

Do you wear chaps in winter and do you like them?

I use my chaps in the spring and fall. They do help a lot. Cheap wind breaker!

They help with wind, cold, crashes and some rain. I've used them for all.

Chaps leave the crotch and ass uncovered and have zero padding/CS-rated armour so if you crash on your bike you will get road-rash ass. Better off with a pair of proper leather trousers.

Although I've never slid on pavement, I'd imagine if your crotch is in a position to receive road rash, you've got more serious problems.  Your a$$, on the other hand......  But if you're anything like me, you could use a little less there. ;D

Just for the record, since there seem to be some tender-foots and green-horns out there, chaps, pronounced shaps, were used by cowboys to protect their legs from chaparral, like scrub oak and manzanita. ;)

But were not supposed to be used for any form of crash protection when falling off a motorcycle at speed  8)

But really, motorcycles weren't invented when chaps were, so obviously not meant for bikes.  Countless riders over time would disagree with you, Andy.  Impact protection, not so much, but road rash?  Priceless.

I own chaps and use them if the weather is bad.  They serve a purpose.  I don't like leather pants.  Chaps can easily be removed once you stop.  that way you don't have the extra weight or "that look".

I never really cared fro walking around in them.  I just don't care for how they look.

Good fro riding, $hity for walking around.  Yet still better than leather pants.  I just don't dig them at all.

Really? Tell that to the guy sliding down the road on his ass-less chaps  8)

Bad use of chaps

Good use of chaps

Have you ever fallen off/crashed your motorcycle? If not then you dont know what you are talking about. If you have then lets agree to disagree. Wear what you want but dont tell me ass-less chaps are going to prevent road rash to your ass when sliding down the street.

cheers

Do you wear chaps in winter and do you like them?

They won't help your balls. I recommend that you look for a set of cycling windfront tights for under your jeans. Like these: http://www.performancebike.com/bikes/Product_10052_10551_1122920_-1_400066__400066. I have two sets for winter cycling, but they work great under jeans for riding on cold days. I used them Sunday when it was 48 degrees when we started riding.
