Hello from Slidell LA 1978 CB750k Kicking my butt! haha
« on: September 23, 2013, 08:03:51 PM »
I'm new.  I'm clueless.  Front brake is locked up.  Bike is running, but battling a rusty tank.  I currently have it soaking in rust killer stuff for the 3rd day.  Hoping it looks better tomorrow.  Any advice on the brake would be greatly appreciated.

in order to get the bike to roll you can whack the caliper with a dead blow hammer to free the stuck pistion, then take the caliper and  master cylinder apart to rebuild both.  When the tank is rusty it usally follows that the carbs need to be taken apart and cleaned.   Welcome to the forum, most manuals can be downloaded from this site...Larry

Welcome!  Lots of great threads on here about cleaning the inside of rusty gas tanks and rebuilding brakes.  Use the search feature to find them.  It'll spit out enough info to make your head spin!

Thanks all!

I've got a lot accomplished. Brakes are free, cleaned and painted.  Tank is better.  Carbs have been cleaned.  I installed a fuel filter to prevent future junk from getting in the carbs.  I had the hardest time getting one float valve to set...would leak when the bike was running.  Finally got that resolved thanks to a guy on you tube and some toothpaste method.  I know right...LOL.  But it worked!

I've learned a lot so far and have a lot to learn I'm sure..taking it one day and one project at a time.
 :o

I rode last night for 8 miles in my neighborhood.  Fun fun!!

Can someone tell me if it's normal to have oil in the rotor / stator area?  . Opened to test stator. Still having electrical problems.  Major voltage drop when I turn the key on.
