Probably the most dangerous is the pucks under the cylinder cover.
Dangerous, because if the cylinder cover is installed improperly, valves get bent.

And I am still left wondering why the OP has not been told to make sure that adjustment studs on the rockers are backed off BEFORE trying to remove the cylinder cover. So that he does not risk bending a valve, breaking a rocker, or damaging a guide.

Ghost, thanks for the heads up buddy, I appreciate it.

Okay so it been a long time since my last post. So here's the update. I did the foot powder thing in 10 degree weather and the bike decided not to leak for quite awhile...of course I was trying to get the oil to present by turning the engine over with the kick. Anyway it appeared that the oil was leaking from the front left corner of the rocker cover, just to the left of cyl 1's exhaust port.
Opened her up last night to get a look, I'm hoping some of you might have some insight to these pics...keep in mind the bike has been leaning on the side stand for weeks

I found this puck btwn 3&4 to be most concerning, dry and gritty:

Pools of oil, normal?

When I did start the bike, cylinder 3 or 4 or both seem to get VERY HOT VERY QUICK. Dry puck on that side good or bad? Any tips on where to go from here are greatly appreciated. Thanks

Oh, I also forgot to mention it I was extremely sleep deprived when removing the cover and guess what happened...yep, lost a nut down the guide side of the cam chain... For cryin out loud, two steps forward, 10 steps back

Bumpity bump.  Replaced the pucks last night, then I drained out the oil and removed the pan and filter cover to fish around any and all openings with my telescopic magnet...I did not get the nut out. No luck. I'm thinking if I remove guide, tensioner and cam chain I might be able to get to it...ideas?

Thanks guys.  I will see if those o-rings are dry and cracked, check the tach drive as well, then if no change, the new cam cover gasket...is that the long squiggly o-ring looking one?  It almost looks as though one could change the cam cover gasket w/o dropping the engine...

You do not "drop " these engines, they have to slide out the side.
