Topic: CB500 / 550 Any Idea what this part is

Found this on the workshop floor where I've been working on the 500/550 mongrel.  Anyone got any idea what it is / where is came from . The wee hole and groove would indicate that it's connected to a greasing point . Its got the same kind of groove as the swing arm spindle collar. Could be for either the 500 or the 550 ...... or then again maybe its a bit from something else entirely that just rolled of the shadows of the workshop. That's a UK 5 pence piece beside it in the photos, about the same size as a quarter ? ). All I know for sure is that its not an internal engine part.

Not 100% sure, but it looks like the lifter for the clutch adjusted. Normally fits inside the left side cover of the engine. Could be wrong though.

Ha ... that would make sense as its the only other graese point apart from the swing arm .. and I have had that cover off ..... it probably goes inside part 5 in attached parts schematic ?

its not for the clutch release,if you havent knocked out any swingarm bush its not that either,they dont fall out,the swingarm bushes ive used havent had a spiral groove.

yep,  its not for the clutch lifter, just went out and had a look. Part 5 is a single piece unit ... and that mystery bit doesnt go anywhere in there and clutch lifter is working fine as it is.  It's nothing to do with the swing arm: its not part of swing arm spindle collar as the outside diameter is too big to fit inside the swing arm bush and the inside diameter is too big for the spindle. Its not a swing arm bush either as the inside diamter is too small for the spindle collar to fit through it.

but too short ? . Never had a 350 in the she (not to say that its hasnt found its way into the box of spares though) .. anyone got one of these lying about and can measure the length ? .. part 10 / 11 in the diagram above

Oh, it's definitely too short to be a 350 part. I just meant that I think that's what it is, a swingarm collar.

cheers BJ , yep it does ... but the only bikes that have ever been in the shed are a CB500/550, a CB500  a CB125s and a minimoto dirtbike !  Other choices are an Internationsl B47 Baler, a Massey Ferguson MF35 Tractor,  a Triumph Heral Convertible  a Roper Yard Tractor an a couple of Honda mowers. I suppose the main thing is that no one apperas to think its of the 500/550 ... so all goo on that front
