Cheaper 1978 CB750K Carb Kits; They're Like a Unicorn
« on: September 25, 2013, 11:43:07 AM »
Why did I happen to buy the only CB750 with a set of carbs that is nearly impossible to find reasonably priced rebuild kits or parts for? If you can even find them, it seems the PD 42B carb components are priced so high, and the kits never match what I even have...

I'm also trying to find a 120ish main jet for this model which has the emulsifier tube (or whatever it's called) and that's proving difficult as well.

Can anyone help a noob out? Thank God for SOHC Forums.

I could hook you up with new 120 main jets, got them in stock. Probably not on the emulsifier tubes. You can clean and reuse the old tubes if they are not damaged. Or supply pics and I have a parts rack that may match up on the tubes.

The's the thing, my carbs don't take that kind of jet... My main jets are the long ones with the emulsifier holes. Will try and find a photo.

LOL.... Truth @flybox? When I unscrew it, the entire thing comes out... maybe it's seized up to the emulsifier tube? It seems like they are a single piece but I am hoping to be wrong and that's the case.

siezed together...most likely.  just grab the emulsion tube with your crescent wrench just below the jet, and stick a flat head screwdriver in the jet and twist it out. :)
it aint unicorn surgery  ;) :P

What fly said, it's a two piece. The jet just hasn't been removed in ages I'll bet, you can get new oem gaskets and orings from Honda at a reasonable price from what I remember.

Either way, is there no cheaper place for parts etc? I'm seeing kits costing around $40+ each. I'll check Honda.

these bikes arent the cheapest to get right and back on the road, but good carb parts are suggested.  they are a one and done purchase.
What exactly are you needing?
main jets($25), maybe pilots($25), bowl orings all around ($20), new float valves($30), and accel pump kit...
reuse needles, needle jets, mixture screw, drain screw...
probably $120+/-

I would avoid most aftermarket parts if you want "no mess" carburetion.  OEM gasket kits can be had for around 15, float valves are kind of pricey at around 20 ea... accel pump diaphragm is a butt-clencher, 50 bucks or better!  But, I've got a couple K&L replacements that don't work, they were 25 each, and the return policy through online vendors makes the time required to return a wash for the money.  Still had to buy an OEM one on top of that!  Lessons learned...

I'm really not an elitist about OEM parts, and I don't like overpaying for parts either- but if you want to ride your bike and quit dicking with carbs every 3-5k miles, buy the good stuff once.  Save your scratch, buy good parts, and have a bike you can really enjoy.

Honestly, I don't think the price of oem kits is that bad, you get what you pay for sometimes.
