I've got my fresh motor back in the frame and I'm a little concerned that the newly undercut transmission may not be in correctly. It doesn't seem to shift smoothly through all gears when I have it on the center stand. Some work well, it is mostly 3-4-5 that I'm unsure about.
Does the bike need to be running/moving to get the undercut transmission to shift?
All motorcycle engines need to be running for them to shift smoothly.
You cannot just press on the shift lever and expect to go into another gear if it is not running and the bike is not rolling or it is on the center stand.
Do this:
Have the bike on the center stand.
Position yourself on the left side of the bike.
Engine OFF.
Now turning the rear wheel and press the shift lever with your hand.
After it engages with each gear as you turn the wheel go up and down through the gears and back to neutral.
OR sit on the bike ,off of the center stand, engine running and in neutral.
Put the bike in first gear and let the clutch partly out and let the bike roll forward a few feet. Then push it back with your feet and go through all of the gears.
NEVER, NEVER KICK or stomp the shift lever!!!!It will just bend a shifting fork!
