disc grinding
« on: February 06, 2015, 08:27:08 PM »
Hi there
I seem to remember somebody on the forum here doing disc grinding for CB750.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please.

Thanks
Scott

Also Chris Schumann up in Oregon does it - and he's a pro machinist (not backyard guy) and REALLY meticulous.
he puts an add on ebay for it

I have had him do two rotors for me so far and the work is truly perfect.

Here's the text.

"This listing is for surface grinding one motorcycle brake rotor. These rotors are stainless steel and cannot be turned on a conventional automotive brake lathe. All work is performed on a rotary surface grinder to exacting tolerances. Newer style floating rotors cannot be ground, only the solid mounted type used on these older bikes. Usually grooved or warped rotors are replaced but this process brings new life to your original pieces and leaves a nice finish. Sanding or "deglazing" rotors will not correct warpage, hard spots or surface thickness variations, precision surface grinding is by far the best way to re-surface a steel motorcycle brake rotor. Simply ship you rotor to me and it will be returned within one business week. Quantity 1 is for a single rotor so if you have more just enter the quantity you have. Drilling services are also available in my other listings. Please contact me if you have any questions. Thanks for looking!"
I recently restored and sold a 77 cb750f, and am nearly finished with a (former basket case) cb750k5.  This is a place to share, learn and enjoy.  I am grateful to and for 99+% of this site's membership.

For a little more money Goddfrey also thins the rotors, I have them on my 750 and 400f. They really weigh like half the original weight of the rotors. He thins them but it leaves behind enough meat that there has been no warpage under race use.
