Weight of 550 Engine?
« on: October 01, 2013, 08:56:17 AM »
Tried a Search, didn't turn up anything...

Does anyone know the weight of a CB550 engine without carbs? I have two I'd like to sell but UPS has a weight limit of 150# without going freight...

I can crate it with 2x2's & plywood (or cardboard); pic is as it would be packed.

Thanks! (No, I don't have a scale!)   ;)

Only thing I could find was an eBay listing for a 550 engine. Potential buyer asked about shipping and the seller indicated it was about 145 lbs which would mean with crating, it would exceed the 150 lb limit.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

On p. 138 in their Shop Manual Honda specifies an engine weight of 159 lb or 72 kg.

Thank you for your replies, gentlemen!

That is disheartening...I have buyers, but even under 150# the cost is over $125...Anything over more than doubles the cost...   :'(

May not help, but when I need cement shipped across the country I use a shipping company, like Unishippers:

I shipped a 500 lb pallet for cement from Florida to MI for 190.

If you check a shipping broker for an LTL quote, let them know whether it will be palatalized (cheaper since it can be moved with a floor jack at delivery), and crated, that you'll be shipping to a curbside delivery and need a lift gate.

Also, if you can palatalize it a friends business with a loading dock, it will be cheaper.
LTL or Less Than Load pickup will charge you xtra for lift gate at pickup and at delivery.
