It's stuck!! Ideas???
« on: September 28, 2013, 08:39:30 PM »
I know you guys have been down this road before. The PO "tried" to adjust the cam chain and broke off the adjuster in the case. He then "tried" again to drill it out and failed at that too.  Any ideas before I start cutting and drilling?

Never mind   I'll just drill it out, push the rod out, and put an insert in it.

Cheers

Might be cheap on Ebay if drilling doesn't work out.

Ya I was thinking that to. I just walked out to my garage to look at it again. It's just the same as last night when I walked away. Lol. I've done some looking and a set of cases are roughly 200 plus new main bearings so if I can save it with a thread insert, not a heli coil but the good inserts, then I'll be money and time ahead.

The engine has 35,500 miles on it and the trans has a considerable whine to it. DSS has the new chains and guides for cam and primary drives so that stuff should get ordered later this afternoon or tomorrow.  The old mains look just fine so no problems thier.  Compression came out at around 120 across the board.  I checked it dry and cold just before I pulled the lump from the frame.

Do the comp numbers sound ok? I'm used to diesels and these little pistons don't put that kind of pressure out.

I've cut the hose off as short as I could so I wouldn't compromise the results.

So maybe the compression is more like 125.
