OSN, it depends on the pods and you will notice I said K&N and another brand that slips my mind right now are quality pieces. Emgo pods on some carbs you can tune till you're blue in the face, their design will make it absolutely impossible to make them work correctly because they block important vacuum venturi's. Plus the cheaper pods with paper filter media don't filter worth a crap.

I quite agree. The cheap ones aren't worth a #$%*e :)

The popcorn boys are scaring me :'(

Do you ever go outside and not yell at the kids to get off your lawn?

No but I did shoot a neighbors cat in my back yard with my pellet rifle once, I popped him good too because that cat freaked out. I didn't kill it but that cat never came near my yard again.  ;D

I got fed up of the dog next door barking all the time, so I reached over the fence and chucked a bucket of water over it. It freaked, ran into the neighbour's house and shat on her kitchen floor. Now each time it sees me it does the same thing. It's owner can't work out why she keeps coming home to crap on her kitchen floor, but I'm saying nothin' ;D

Or, how about this?  Replace the side covers with flat screens and tiny cameras, to project the image from the other side onto each flat screen?  That would hide all the "ugly" but functional stock bits you abhor.  You could also attach multi-mirrors to your riding apparel so the bike will look as good as the pictures even while you are actually riding it!

Abhor is a strong word.

I have a '74 125 that I fully restored to stock and it's awesome. So I don't abhor the "functional stock bits".

Too Tired fits you. I think you must be a sad angry old feeble man that wants us to keep all things the way they are and never try to change them. Do you ever go outside and not yell at the kids to get off your lawn?

On a side note, surely the 550 can't power TWO flat screens and cameras! I'll look into this.

Dave, with respect, TT is a top bloke (especially with 550s) and that's just his way. Don't cut your nose off to spite your face, you may need him in the future.

I like Davez's post. I find almost everyone running crap pods try to justify them by saying "my bike runs just fine with them? That's because they have not ridden one of the same bikes to know how much better they run with the proper equipment.

I have ridden my CB750F2(s) with both stock airbox, and pods (S&B) set-up. You absolutely CAN get them as good as stock with pods. Problem is, IMO, most people don't take the time to tune properly.

I have to nip this in the bud now, I totally didn't mean any disrespect to TT. I have seen him around answering questions back and forth and I'd love for him to help me in the future. Even if he wasn't knowledgeable I'm not going to disrespect anyone. But given his sarcastic answer I just gave sarcasm right back. I thought we were all joking around. I love all you guys...I'll say non-sexually, but who am I kidding.

This to some is getting weird, but when you consider that I have been trying to read HondaMans CB750 book to my kids as bed time story I guess I am not exactly normal myself.

DaveBarbier, I saw your reply after mine and thought you were referring to my post. Wasn't paying attention to who you were quoting.

No problem Powderman, thanks for the input. I'm getting more confident about this mod. I can't find too many people who have done this already but it 'seems' like it's an easier, less headachy option.

For some reason I don't even get a response anymore,  don't they understand the benefit from learning such things at an early age.

Try reading them a manifesto about pod filters. If they make popcorn, you know they've been listening.

When I bought my bike, there were pod filters on it. Air box was long gone and did not come with the bike.  I have gone through everything on the bike, tuned to perfection (or so I thought) I even switched to K&N brand pods I got for a great deal. I was happy. Then a little over a week I rode a friend's bike ('74 Cb750) with stock air box. I have since posted an ad for air box in parts wanted section and am waiting for it to show up!

I had a similar experience. When I bought my '74 CB750 the PO had already put pods on it. I spent the better part of 6 weeks screwing with them to get rid of flat spots etc. I even bought and installed another set of expensive pods. Thought I had it working not too bad, but I still thought it could be better. Fortunately, the PO had included the stock air box in the sale, so I bought some new OEM rubber boots that join the carbs to the air box and installed the air box with the original stock jets.

NIGHT AND DAY DIFFERENCE!! Now I finally had the legendary CB750 working like it is supposed to!

When I installed the OEM rubber thingme's I noticed that they looked like mini velocity stacks, and subsequently I read where that is exactly what they are and why they are needed.

Pretty hard to do better than the 1,000 Honda engineers that designed the bike in the first place!

Just wondering what all of you pod runners are doing about crankcase evacuation? These engines are designed to run with negative pressure in the case; without proper evacuation provided by the stock air induction system the engines build up pressure internally which affects performance (not to mention that it will eventually eat your engine alive). Could be part of why it's so hard to get one of these properly dialed in. At the very least, it seems that a road draft tube would be in order...

How are you addressing this? Just curious.  ???

Anybody have any info or opinions about pods? Is there a ratio for air intake, jets and exhaust, or something like that? Just curious and I can't find the thread that MUST exist on this. Anybody?

Yes, there is a ratio. 14 parts air to 1 part fuel.
All determined by the size of the hole letting air into the carbs.
The larger the hole the more gas you will need. And that may require jet increases and
slide needle adjustments.

With talk of this draft tube, does it actually scavenge pressure from the valve case or does the pressure from the valve case blow it back into the carbs for recirculation instead of purging to the atmosphere?

the later recirc type is to prevent oil getting onto the road,if you have a very worn out fumey engine it can be severe,if you have a good tight piston bore and ring assembly its fine, dont cap it with a bling little filter its supposed to be open, the filter will hinder the flow.

yeah, I am pretty sure losing the primitive Honda pcv system is the absolute least worry for users of the pods.
If it works good, it looks good...
