Anybody follow the Lambrecht Chevy auto auction ?
« on: September 30, 2013, 05:24:03 AM »
Being an auction bum I thought it was very interesting. They had some coverage on the History channel, was funny seeing some of the cars with trees going in and through them as they prepared. Big bucks, Google it if you do not know the background story. http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2013/09/29/day-1-results-lambrecht-chevrolet-company-collection-auction/

I think some cars were bought for the engines, # tags and odometers. One guy on TV said as much, he wanted to upgrade a truck he had at home.

I read some of the comments. I'm happy I'm not the only that thought you could go to a junkyard and find most of that crap for pennies on the dollar compared to what thauction is selling for. Hell even on our local craigslist I see most of those same cars go for a whole lot less and a lot are even drivers. What is it about an auction that brings out the 'splurge' mentality?
This is like opening up a motorcycle junk yard and paying $3000+ for a CB750 that is banged up, rusty, in need of paint, parts, and upholstery and lots of mechanical work. Most of us wouldn't pay over $1000 or not even that much.

Yes but that would not be a Lambrecht, or McQueen bike then would it..
It works like this.. You are there at the auction, dont get what you want.. So you end up buying something .. It happens..

I lived there for a couple years as a young kid.. All I remember is jumping roads from ditch to ditch on a snowmobile after a heavy snowfall. That was terrible parenting right there cause I couldnt have been more then 7ish and #$%* was super sketchy.
