a parts bike turn into a project bike? I'm in the middle of doing up a 1964 Benly 150 twin and a fellow calls on my parts wanted ad with another Benly, in pieces but almost complete, which I bought for $200. It's in much better condition than the one I'm working on, needs fewer parts, fairly straight too, so I think my project is going to become a parts bike for now. Crazy turn about!
Cliff.

I say a machine becomes a parts bike when a title is impossible to get and the cost to make it presentable far outweighs its true monetary value in the end. Sentimental value is a different matter as in fixin' up dear old Dad's bike or similar.

As 754 says the history of the first one is cooler but boy is it a mess compared to the new "parts" bike. Hard decision. Or make the parts bike a resto as well and keep shopping for parts for the first one? 3 750's and 2 150's - madness!. I need to branch out more. So many Hondas and so little time! Cliff.

we have a process here to get that isn't all thet difficult just time consuming. The new one doesn't have papers but I think I can find the old owner with out an expensive search.

ok, here is how it works for me...buy messed up old motorcycle number 1, buy parts bike to fix up messup 1, finish messup 1, left with almost whole 'nother bike worth of parts, stumble on basket case 1/bunch of parts, sell remains of parts bike with basket case 1/bunch of parts as basket case 2, still have parts left over...continue.  Titles have become more important in my state than they were before.  I am envious of guys in states where titles are not important.
If it works good, it looks good...

That's what happened with my dad's MGB project many yers ago. He bought a '69 parts car for his '71 project and ended up restoring the '69 instead and using the '71 for parts.

Been there , many years ago I bought a 1965 Honda 150 . It was in a fire . Complete meltdown . Found  another one . No title . most of the parts on the no title bike where great shape . If I would have had the title would have fixed it .Spent more time on the original one . In the end everything worked out.

This was going to be a parts bike - I don't think so now. Cliff.

At my house, all bikes are project bikes, the ones with the best parts get finished first. There is always a machine in the corner that gets the second best parts put back on it, that in turn becomes the next project with the best parts and another frame ends up with the next batch of second choice parts ,usually in between this process another machine enters the garage and it's best parts go on the ongoing project.....and so on.... so every bike is a parts bike until it becomes the next project bike. After around twenty of them in the last two years, and the best parts going on the machines before it, unless a new machine entered the garage during that project in which case the best parts from the new machine go on the ongoing project. There have been 3 machines with bent frames that totally disappeared but their best parts went to the project bike. The last parts bike is looking pretty nasty and may never end up being the project bike until another group of machines follow me home.
I guess that means it's time to get some more machines and start the whole process over.
