cb750 k1 engine rebuild parts list
« on: May 08, 2010, 01:37:33 PM »
I'm trying to make a list of the parts I will need to rebuild my cb750 k1 engine.

I have a kinda list from this post:
http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=29364.msg302644#msg302644

between the engine seal set and the gasket set will I get all my little o-rings and the rubber retainer things for the valve guides?.

what about piston wrist pin circlip thingy's? the rings that hold them in. where can I get these?

is there a complete list somewhere?

what's the best gasket kit to get? the cycle x one?

thanks

The piston circlips are available from Honda.  They are really cheap.  Besides gaskets and seals you are going to need new cam chain tensioner bits (still available from Honda).  The rest is up to you.  I can't see tearing a motor apart and spending $200 for gaskets, seals, and tensioners without getting a proper valve job (not lapping, actually cutting the seats) and some type of overbore (836 or .25mm).  At this point you have to decide if you want porting, hotter cam, trans undercutting, new or bigger valves, etc.  Unfortunately your budget will determine what you build.  No sense in listing every single new part you can buy for a CB750 motor without knowing what you want out of it and how much you're willing to spend.

thanks, I already dealt with the valves, cylinders and everything, I have access to all the cool tools at my school. gettin ready to put stuff back together. I was just wondering about all the little things that always get changed out, the o-rings and stuff. I know there are differences on different bikes so I wasn't sure if I am just going to buy the set and get everything or if I need to get a set and then buy this and that to make it complete.

but Hondaman himself emailed me and cleared everything up.

in case anyone else doesn't know this all the valve guide rubbers come w. most gasket sets. between the gasket set and the oil seal kit you should get all the lil o rings and whatnot. I think they just put in extra, so each year bike is covered.

hondaman likes vesrah gasket kits. and Z1 has the oil seal kit which has the other bits. they are out of vesrah gasket sets, though. dynoman has them and ebay does, but not the oil seals.

but cycle x has a kit that includes the gasket set w/ everything and the oil seal set all in one. kind of convenient. not sure what kind of gaskets they are?

the cam chain tensioner bits are all at Z1, seem kinda spendy to me but they are more at bike bandit. if anyone knows of a better source than Z1...

trying to find a good source for stock size piston rings. it's crazy but the stock sized ones are twice as much as the over sized ones? at rusty riders. but they're only about 70 bucks, so I'm not complaining too much.

these look like the ones I took out, other sets have the corrugated looking 3 piece oil ring. which was not what was in my bike.
