Can I limp home with no clutch?
« on: August 18, 2006, 09:29:29 AM »
Hello, I was on my way to my girlfriends when my clutch cable broke at the perch. I was gonna try and ride it to my house without having to stop but it didnt work. Well now I am stranded at my gf's house and I don't want to be. I was wondering if it were possible for a quick fix, or trick in order to take off from first. Or anything else I could do to make it home. I hooked up a vice grip to the end of the cable but its impossible to pull. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I limped home without a clutch once in 1997. It was some 100 kms. I only had to stop a few times. This is how I got it going again.
Changing gears once you are rolling is quite easy. Pull the gear up while releasing on the throttle. To gear down blimp the throttle while pushing the gear down.

To stop. Put it in neutral and stop. To get it going, push the bike until it rolls at walking speed, jump on the bike and pull it into second gear. Then take it up from there.

Be ready with the kill switch if you can't hit neutral before stopping at lights.
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame

Didn't say which bike, but I have a mental picture of running and hoping on a 750. I
can barely keep mine stable while trying to move it....sitting on it.  :o  ;D
