cb500 master cylinder rebuild kit
« on: August 18, 2006, 08:46:43 AM »
Hi.  I picked up an CB500 that needs front brake work.  I've done this on a 750 before, with a master cylinder repair kit from Partsnmore.  I can't find a similar kit for the cb500 four.  There's one for the cb500 twin, but not the four.  Does such a beast exist for the four?  Thanks!

I had the same issue with my 72 cb500. I called the motorcycle barn place and they didnt have a part number, I took a chance and bought one for the cb550 on ebay from some place called "pony  something" or "horse something". I measured everything with digital calipers and it was exactly the same. The return spring was longer because I think mine was worn. Ill try to find the ebay auction and PM you.

You will find that most any master cylinder will work. It doesn't have to be Honda. You can actually buy a better master cylinder on Ebay that probably cheaper than the Honda rebuild kit.

Turns out I still had the guts from the rebuild I did on the 750.  I'll use that to compare sizes.  Taking the 500 M/C apart was a lot easier-it was stored in a barn, not outside, so it wasn't nearly as dirty.  The only part that is definitely not reusable is the circlip, so I may have everything I need already.  Thanks!
