Blind timing following blind timers
« on: August 19, 2006, 11:50:01 AM »
Ok, I finally got mine timed right too. The Bike when I bought it was running real bad.
The PO had cleaned carbs but the points weren't opening is what I found.
Set those then checked timing. I noted the adjustment was all set out in the clockwise
direction on the backing plate. I saw two double marks and I thought the PO had used those so they must be the
timing marks. They aren't. There is a T mark for tdc, a F mark for the timing, and then 2 double
marks just passed the numbers for 1-4 or 2-3. The F mark is for timing it is just before the cylinder #'s, the 2 double marks it
looks like to me are for full advance because when I set on the F and watch the marks as I rev it up the advance jumps to the
2 marks.

Wonder if that is why I was having a bit of a surging problem :)

Anyway, I set them on F and seem to be running much stronger.

Hope this helps so of you who have been noting timing problems also.
