Hello all New CB owner here.
« on: August 20, 2006, 05:34:49 PM »
Hello all my name is Chris and i am from Lloydminster Sask Canada. As of Thursday i am the new owner of a 1974 Honda CB750K4. I purchased the bike for $250 and got a set of spare carbs and a Vetter Windjammer SS Fairing with the bike. Just managed to get the carbs installed using a couple of the tricks i found on here last night before registering onto the forum now i have a new problem to contend with. I am not getting any spark nor does the push button for the electric start work. I Can get the bike to turn over on the starter if i use jumper cables from my car battery directly on the pos lead to the starter on what i think is the solenoid beside the battery box. (its the round thing that the pos battery cable leads to then the pos lead off of the starter connects to the second post of. Not sure if its called a solenoid or not..used to a part that looks simular on a ford car hence why i called it that. Also the front lights are missing on the bike it isnt much of a concern unless the disconnected wires affect the ignition. However i was going to install the Vetter Fairing to take care of the missing lights once i determine what wire goes where. I ordered a Clymers manual for the bike and just waiting for it to arrive.

Anyway heres some pics of my 74.

if you have the stock harnessthe wiring in the front should be self expanatory i.e. green to green, yellow red to yellow red. i would thing the only thing not hooked up would be the headlight which is one green, one blue and one white wire. everything else should be connected. the thing you are talking about is a solenoid. I think first get a good battery and start sorting out the wiring. good luck.

chris, I know someone from canada named Maggie. do you know her?

Just kidding.

Thanx for the warning lol. Well im not sure which way im going with the bike...im leaning towards the sport touring look hence the possable use of the Windjammer but im not sure if that will fit in well with a straight pipe exhaust...or theres going with a mild cafe racer look using the GS 750 Fairing. At the moment its up in the air as to which way..chances are in the long run i will probably go one way for awhile then convert the bike later on just to keep it interesting.

Welcome to the site.

My opinion - loose the windjammer - as it kills the look of the bike .
But as I said , thats just my opinion...

Welcome again  ;D

Welcome on board. You will find this forum a superb source of valuable information, and good for a laugh at times.

I agree with ProTeal; the sohc bikes look phenomenal naked and imho shouldn't be covered up.

Not picking at all. :)  Bungee cords are third on my list of all-time favorite quick fixes.  Just after Duct tape and baling wire!

I've got a piece of heavy guage copper wire in place of one of the hinge pins on my seat.  Put it there a couple of years ago, and it's worked so well I never replaced it! ;D

Well the more i look at the bike without a fairing of anysort the more i lean towards keeping it naked just as it is ment to be...then i dont have to worry about it looking wrong with straight pipes...Now the thing that gets me is finding replacement liights for my K4
