Another confusing electrical problem
« on: August 21, 2006, 10:03:26 PM »
This sight is amazing!

Just bought my first motorbike! I'm stoked! It's a 78 F3 and I have been tinkering around trying to get her all tuned up before I put her on the road. It has some rattling in the engine which is probably the cam chain. I have adjusted it but it doesn't help. Could be the valve guides? Not too worried as I know it is a common issue. What is confusing me is the electrical issues I am seeing. I was checking the timing and some crazy things are happening! Cylinder #1 is fine at low RPM but as soon as it hits 2000 then the timing light shuts off. Can someone please enlighten me as to what could possibly be causing this to happen. It has the Dyna S ignition sytem with stock coils. There is a small scratch on the rotory part of the ignition module. It stumbles at low rpm but seems smooth at high rpm. All of the other cylinders seem to be acting normal.  I have not totally jumped into investigation mode with changing plugs and wires. Thought I would try to rack your brains first. Any ideas?
Does clinching your teeth slow you down in the corners?

No idea on your Dyna issue (I'm sure someone will), but welcome to the site.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.
